Gazan Child Featured by UK's Daily Mirror Suffers from Disease, Not Malnutrition, Israel Reveals

(Jerusalem Post) The IDF Coordinator for Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) on Sunday published evidence documenting that a Gazan toddler featured on the front page of the UK's Daily Mirror on Friday suffered from a genetic disease, not malnutrition. The photo of Karim Ali Fouad Abu Mu'amar, 3, in frail physical condition, was headlined: "Stop Starving Gaza's Kids." A report from the European Hospital in Gaza shows Mu'amar's diagnosis as a 10-month-old infant. He suffers from a rare hereditary kidney disorder called Fanconi syndrome, which could lead to muscle and urinary tract weakness. The disease also affected other members of his family. COGAT said, "Hamas continues to spread false narratives as part of a deceptive propaganda campaign." It accused foreign media of "serving as their platform without any examination or verification. Don't let compassion be exploited for propaganda. Check the facts before parroting blame."
