IDF Receives Cutting-Edge Artillery System
(Ynet News) Yoav Zitun - The IDF Artillery Corps this month received Elbit Systems' new all-Israeli wheeled, self-propelled howitzer. The SIGMA 155 will replace the aging U.S.-made M109 Paladin tracked artillery system. It features automatic shell loading, a reduced crew of 3 soldiers instead of 7, firing ranges of up to 40 km. (25 miles), and a firing rate of eight shells per minute. The fact that loaders will no longer be required could allow SIGMA 155 battalions to be fully open to female combat soldiers.
