Viewing the Current Wave of Protests in Iran
(Institute for National Security Studies-Tel Aviv University) Dr. Raz Zimmt - The current wave of protests in Iran poses the greatest threat to the regime since the 1979 Revolution. While the scope of the protests is wide and includes different sectors, there are no indications of cracks or fissures within the repression and enforcement apparatuses. The political elite also continues to display cohesion, at least outwardly. It seems appropriate to define the current situation as an "ongoing revolutionary situation," which could continue for months. The writer is the Director of the Iran and the Shiite Axis research program at INSS.
