Iran Ceasefire Seen Unlikely in Coming Days
(Israel Hayom) Danny Zaken - Mediation efforts between Iran and the U.S. have intensified in an attempt to secure a ceasefire and resume talks. The proposal under consideration calls for a ceasefire lasting one to two weeks, aimed at restoring the understandings set out in the memorandum of understanding. However, the U.S. said that only the complete and unrestricted reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, along with compliance with all the terms of the memorandum, would lead to renewed negotiations, the lifting of the naval blockade and an end to U.S. strikes. The U.S. calls for guarantees that commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps will publicly endorse any agreement. Therefore, diplomatic sources assess that a ceasefire is unlikely in the coming days, and that a formal resumption of negotiations is even less likely.
