Inside Iran: "We've All Become Poor because of the War"
(Israel Hayom) Danny Zaken - Inside Iran, the economic crisis continues to worsen. The Iranian rial fell to a new record low of 2.2 million to the dollar. Prices of basic goods rise daily, and Iranian social media is flooded with "empty pot" videos and harsh accusations against the regime. One video that reached millions showed a uniformed police officer, a station commander, holding an empty pot while sharply attacking the regime and its indifference. An Iranian citizen from Mashhad, a government employee, told me Tuesday: "We haven't eaten meat in weeks, chicken once a week, and mostly rice with very few side dishes on the table. The car sits by the house because there's no fuel, and I don't have extra money to buy it at the inflated black market price." "Public transportation is mostly paralyzed because there's no diesel for the buses, and I walk to work, almost an hour each way. People are selling everything they have to fund food and medicine, and I keep getting requests from family and friends to help them. We've all become poor because of the war, and in practice, the government barely exists." "It's no longer about supporting or not supporting the government's policy on the nuclear issue or Hormuz; nobody cares about that anymore; people are just trying to survive. When the people feel they can't take it anymore, change will happen."
