How to Put Time Back on the Clock in Iran
(Wall Street Journal) David H. Petraeus - Before the war, 20 million barrels a day of crude oil and petroleum products passed through the Strait of Hormuz. Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, said on Sept. 19 that the volume of oil, cargo and liquefied natural gas moving through Hormuz over the past two weeks has reached its highest level in six months. Bypassing Hormuz, the UAE's Fujairah exported about 2.28 million barrels a day of crude in July. If Saudi Arabia's East-West Pipeline to Yanbu can be restored to 2.5 million, Gulf exports could approach 15-16 million barrels a day. This is far closer to what the global market requires, given the reduction in demand since February. The writer, a retired U.S. Army general, served as director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
