Anti-Israel Jurist Navi Pillay Awarded 2026 Nobel Peace Prize
(i24News) South African jurist Navi Pillay, who led a UN commission that accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, was awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday. In September 2025, the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry issued a report accusing senior Israeli leaders of inciting genocide and argued that Israeli military operations and government policies demonstrated an intent to destroy the Palestinian population. Israel's Foreign Ministry accused the commission of spreading a malicious narrative intended to demonize Israel, relying on selectively presented evidence, and making allegations its own material could not substantiate. It called for the commission to be abolished. Israeli President Isaac Herzog accused the commission of whitewashing Hamas's atrocities, as Israel sought to defend its citizens and secure the return of its hostages.
