Israel's National Security Balance - 2026
(Institute for National Security Studies-Tel Aviv University) As it enters its fourth year since the Oct. 7 attack, Israel has demonstrated unprecedented military and technological superiority during the war. It inflicted significant and comprehensive damage on Hamas, Hizbullah, Iran, and other central components of the pro-Iranian axis; expanded its military freedom of action; and demonstrated impressive operational capabilities in all arenas of combat. However, these achievements have not yet been translated into a more stable strategic reality. The war continues, Israel's political room to maneuver has been reduced, and its international standing severely damaged.
